As part of Shakthi magazine's feature on iconic temples of Singapore, I was privileged to write about the design and the architecture of the Sri Mariamman Temple. Walking through its sacred grounds, I was struck by the simplicity and functionality of its design, yet its essence spoke volumes.
The temple's architecture, while rooted in the Dravidian tradition, incorporates subtle fusion elements that give it a distinctive character.
Getting to see the details of the temple architecture, its rituals and talking to the people whose lives have been impacted by the temple over the course of many years was a profoundly enlightening and humbling experience that appealed both the spiritual and the artistic side of my being.
