Mount Sinai Rise, Singapore

Project Dover entailed the renovation of a single-level apartment unit in Singapore.  Set in the leafy Mount Sinai neighborhood, the three-decade old building comprises spacious and roomy four-bedroom apartments with ample balcony spaces.  This project was a comprehensive remodel including adapting space flow to suit the prospective residents and redoing all flooring, bathrooms, kitchen, utility area, and fixtures and appliances.  The centerpiece of the remodel is the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces to create a warm and inviting alfresco experience for the living and dining areas.  This space also includes a large (approx. 6 feet x 14 feet) and specially commissioned stained glass installation of a pair of Annapakshi (mythical swans) in a pond and set against a pomegranate tree representing fertility and prosperity.  The redesign added specific elements designed for practical living, such as the creation of a pantry accessed from the kitchen via a hidden door and well-concealed storage spaces.  Of particular note is the landscaping in the two large balconies.  Overall, the apartment comes together with its use of organic textures, sharp contrasting monochromatic colour palette that meshes with the green surroundings greenery, and elegant and modern touches that blend with the heritage pieces from across Asia which the owner has collected over many years.
